Newcastle Disc Golf will be holding the September league day at Jesmond Park on Sunday the 4th of September, from 10:15am. Registration is from 9:45am, and the course will be available prior for practice. It normally costs $5 to enter, and $2 if you want to be in the hole-in-one jackpot, but as a Father’s Day thing if anyone brings their Dad or kids along, only 1 person needs to pay and the rest of the family plays free. There will be used discs for free hire, and new discs to buy.
On Sunday the 7th, there were 11 starters that decided to brave the early Rain that afflicted Newcastle. So much for the forecast of showers in the afternoon only!
At 10:15 we were ready to go and by 10:20 we had a late-comer rushing up and just about fell out of his car trying to make the first tee off in time, thanks Brad.
The red tees at Jesmond Park are now in the ground. They are mostly pretty easy to find, 1 and 2 are to the left of the blue tees, 3 is further back as you walk towards the blue tee, 4 is among the trees to the right of the path, 5 is to the left of blue in the trees, 6 is behind the blue tee. 7 is the only tricky one, being up the top of the hill behind the tree on the fairway of 6, 8 is behind and to the left of the blue tee and 9 is in front of the blue tee and to the right.
Jesmond Disc Golf course has had its first ace (hole in one) today, in a competitive lunch time round with Zack Golenia throwing his forehand driver (Emilie's pink leopard) downhill on hole 8 for the win.
Nice work Zack!
Congratulations to Neil on winning the Men's advanced division at the Sydney Open this past weekend. It is always a tightly contested division and this year was no different. Neil put in a strong performance to edge out the Brisbane and Melbourne contenders.
Thanks also to Sydney Disc Golf Club for running another great event.
The grand opening of Jesmond Park Disc Golf Course scheduled for Monday (Public Holiday) 13th June has been postponed due to bad weather. It will now take place on the second weekend of the school holidays, Sunday the 10th July.
The ribbon will be cut on hole 1 at 10am followed by learn to throw sessions at 10:30 and 1:30. You can watch the experts play at 12:30 and enjoy a round yourself all day. We will have discs available to borrow or buy, as well as maps of the course and a scorecard (To borrow a disc for a round you will need a $10 deposit which will be returned when you bring the disc back). Pick them up at the desk by the Robinson Ave carpark right by hole 1. The best rounds on the day by beginners and juniors will win prizes. So come out and discover this great fun sport.
